A.W.E. Spotlight – Alicat Caregiver

In an effort to always bring you the latest and greatest information, I am happy to present another installment of our Advisory of Women Entrepreneurs Spotlight interview series.

We designed this series to, not only showcase our community of amazing women entrepreneurs, but to also share their best tips, strategies and insights for wanna-be and established women entrepreneurs.  Our mission for this community is to bring an incredible group of women together to inspire, motivate, and support women in business by networking, collaborating, and, in the case of this spotlight series, showing you why they shine so brightly!

Today, we continue this series with an incredibly courageous woman who decided to grab hold of her future with both hands and turn her life right-side up, President of Alicat Pet Service, Alison Kero.

Alison had a successful business, by outside measures, but it wasn’t where her heart was. She shares her story of giving it up to go after her dream business, and never looking back. Hear about her biggest “aha” moment that changed everything, her journey, and her dreams for the future. Enjoy!

Alison Kero, President of Alicat Pet Service, got her start in the pet business at an early age.  Raised in rural Vermont, her family had all types of pets from a horse named Peaches and a sheep named Homer to cats, dogs, bunnies and even mice.  Since high school she has been asked to be a caretaker to friends and neighbors pets.  In 2000 Alison moved to New York City and in 2004 she opened her first business, Gotham Concierge where she provided time-saving services to busy New Yorkers.  Finding that she was frequently asked to care for her client’s pets and often wished she could be spending her time playing with the animals rather than running errands, Alison realized she had found her true passion: caring for pets.

After realizing that decision and having lived in New York 11 years and owned her business for 6, Alison decided to make a complete change in her life and moved out to Denver, Colorado in November of 2011 and started Alicat Pet Service.  Motivated by her desire to be closer to nature, enjoy the mountains, the beautiful weather and the happy people of Denver, Alison now happily cares for the pets of her new neighbors. Great interview ladies! As someone that dropped everything and starting fresh, I applaud your jump Alison.

“You have to be present in your own life to get what you want.” LOVE IT!

I encourage my clients to surround themselves with solid support systems and cutting the ties to people that hold them back. BRAVO for being brave enough to do that!

Alison your perspective on taking care of you is an inspiration to many entrepreneurs. So many practice self-care last and that ultimately leads to the failure of their business. BRAVO for figuring that out too.

Shannon – My Danny is my “furry child” as well. I have 4 boys to raise. My husband, two sons and Danny. 🙂

Thanks for taking the time to record.

Hi Stephanie! So glad you enjoyed the interview with Alison. I find her story to be incredibly inspiring and courageous! Go Alison! Thank you for your comments — indeed, systems are the key to success, and setting healthy boundaries in order to maximize your potential, and limit the people and things that can so easily hold anyone back. Can’t wait to get you on a Spotlight interview in the near future! 🙂
