Women (and men) are, thankfully, no longer tied to the traditional 9 to 5 grind of working for someone else, while sacrificing time with loved ones, or forgoing the activities they love.  Given the option to telecommute or start a business from home, women are continuing to change the way they do business, so that work time fits around their life, and not vice versa.

Whether you are an ex-exec, expatriate, single mom, or stay-at-home mom, you now have the flexibility to be “virtually” amazing in business. The options are endless and the overhead can be kept to a minimum, which is great news for those who need to start-up on a small budget.

Spreading Your Virtual Wings

When you aren’t tied to a brick and mortar business model, and have basic computer knowledge (or friends who do), you can start a business for almost nothing.  And if you need to farm out the more difficult tasks, get creative and find people who are willing to barter services.

Many entrepreneurs choose to sell electronic goods or their services in lieu of tangible products that cost money to produce, store and ship.  Most of the time your only cost is the time it takes you to produce a product.  With automated delivery services, you can sell a product and deliver it to your customer immediately after purchase while you are driving carpool, getting a massage, or fixing breakfast.

And marketing to an online community can be done from your keyboard, when it fits into your schedule.  There are so many social networking sites that cover just about any niche you can think of, where you can seek out and interact with your target customers.  The point is that with all the options available to business owners who wish to transact business over the world wide web, if you have been considering jumping in, there’s nothing standing in your way.

Follow Your Dream

Take time to research your proposed market and develop a solid business plan that targets an expressed need within your target market.  You can start out slowly and build momentum over time.  Just don’t let fear stand in the way of you dipping your toe in the water, if owning your own business has been a long time dream.
