When it comes to luck, I believe that it’s not something that you wait around on to land in your lap. Sure there are those who waste spend money on lottery tickets, hoping that they will win big. But the luckiest people I know are those who set themselves up to “win” big, and do.
The good life is not just for special people. If you have been walking through your days with that kind of attitude, it’s time for some significant shifts in thinking and some proactive action. Waiting for life to happen to you will leave you spending your entire life waiting. Imagine what that will feel and look like in another 20-30 years. If you don’t like that picture, keep reading.
There are plenty of people I know who haven’t had the easiest lives, but are incredibly fortunate. No, they are not playing mind games with themselves to make things better that they really are. And they aren’t some exception to a rule. They have faced some pretty serious challenges, but have a knack for attracting good things into their life all the time.
How? I am glad you asked, because that means you’ve made it this far and would like to know how you can do it too. I am going to break it down into some simple changes you can make in your life today that will begin to open doors of opportunity all around you:
Step 1 – Carpe Diem
Yes, seize the day, every day. Even when you don’t feel like it, decide what you can do to make the most of each day. More than just an attitude — although that is a key component — you must commit to forward action. What that looks like varies by individual, but here are some examples: get out of the house more often; change your daily routine to expose yourself to new sights, smells, tastes, experiences; keep your head up and open your eyes to absorb the amazing things that go on around you constantly; be curious. The point is to keep yourself at least one step outside the rut of your comfort zone.
Step 2 – Become a Detective
As I mentioned above, the “waiting for things to just happen” approach can be pretty fruitless. Why not take some action and create opportunities? The best way to do this is to be on the lookout for them. They may lie in plain sight, or be hiding within something that you might have otherwise viewed as a disappointment. The point is, that they are out there, waiting for someone to snap them up. Sometimes you just need to make a trip down a rabbit hole and see what emerges on the other side.
Step 3 – How Loose is Your Goose?
Being uptight and anxious is not going to allow you the luxury of going with the flow. You also don’t want to waste time trying to jam square pegs into round holes. Avoid approaching new situations with preconceived ideas about what will happen. Go to a conference with the idea of learning new things, having a good time, meeting interesting people. And then see what happens when you are genuine, confident, and open.
These are just a few tips to get you to a place where you can begin to attract new opportunities that you may have been unknowingly blocking in the past. It’s time to take a more proactive, rather than reactive role in your own life. So get going!
