12 Tips for How to Be Memorable in Business

My focus for the New Year is to increase my visibility, both online and locally with my businesses. Both arenas have their challenges when it comes to standing out in the crowd. So I am developing plans to not only be noticed, but to be memorable.

There are amazing entrepreneurs, who are every day thinking outside the box to get more than noticed in business too. So I sought out the very best information for you from my panel and asked –

What is your single best INNOVATIVE strategy for being MEMORABLE in your business arena, and how is it creating big buzz about you, either online or in your local community?

As you will discover in the responses below, this group of entrepreneurs is not afraid to push the envelope, stand tall, think big, and leverage their best assets. What will you do to be memorable in 2012?

1. Would You Believe… It’s My Hats!

I live and work in the high desert country of New Mexico, and started wearing hats to protect my skin from sun damage. I am one of the few women in my area who wears hats regularly; and it didn’t take long to become known, admired – and sometimes envied – for my hat collection.

2. Write. Write Some More. Keep Writing!

When I began planning the creation of my niche market, with a limited budget, I started thinking of ways to get my name ‘out there’ for free. Social Media/Internet was the natural choice. But, I wasn’t a writer. However, the need was there so I began….writing. Every day, sometimes multiple times a day. Short, medium, long. I looked for every venue possible. Today, I have a national reputation and am about to publish a book. And the best part? The revenue is beginning to equal the efforts!

3. Vox Can Be Magna

I was 21 when I learned my voice just might be my best business tool. I’ve used it shamelessly since–when making cold calls, seeking interviews, or setting up appointments. Of course, once I’m face-to-face with a client, I rely on my professionalism and the quality of my programs to close the sale. But, the dulcet tones in my Siren’s song have made many a modern-day Odysseus wish he had tied himself to the metaphorical mast.

4. Create Something Amazing

You need to create something that people think of when they think about your industry — and that they associate your name with. That something can be just about anything, depending on your industry: an in-depth guide to a specific issue, a philanthropic project. The important thing is that the project is big and interesting to the people you want to remember you.

5. Innovation Through Massive Giveaways!

We run fantastic megaprize giveaways through our Facebook page. This is creating immense buzz for our social media pages and our main website. People must like a couple of our social media pages to enter the giveaways, and we have garnered a whole new bunch of followers because of it. It’s been a solid way to end this hectic year, and we will surely continue into the New Year.

6. Make Sure The Public Is Constantly Updated

Innovation can always be tricky when it comes to a field like sales. We think we have found something that makes us stand out from the crowd. We handpick amazing bargains and sales on the web and post them up on our blog and social media pages. The innovation comes when these deals sell out or expire. We make sure to update our website and tell the public which are done so that they don’t waste their time.

7. Be Sincerely Appreciative

This past year as I was wrapping up publication of my new book, and working on supporting projects, I interacted with a lot of people who were on my creative team as well as people who I met while networking or speaking. I was always appreciative and grateful for anything these people did (or offered to do) to help me bring my vision to reality, bought my book, or were willing to get the word out to people who could benefit from my message. At the end of the year, many people told me my attitude of gratitude was a welcome breath of fresh air and made me stand out from the crowd. I thought everyone did this, but now I know it’s a rarity. People love to be sincerely appreciated. Try it and see the benefits and memorability it brings you in 2012.

8. A Strong Social Media Surge

Being memorable when you’re a neophyte is definitely a tall task. But for us, we have taken social media by storm. In just a short few months we have garnered nearly 6,000 Facebook followers. We accomplished this feat with innovative content, amazing contests, constant interaction with our loyal fans, and by giving away lots of cool prizes from our sponsors.

9. Giving NOT Taking

Either you’re part of the solution or you’re part of the problem. It is a must to be part of the solution, and not just for the sake of being ‘memorable,’ but from a genuine feeling of wanting to be a help. People will recognize and be attracted to you for your sincerity, honesty and come to rely upon you as a trustworthy person they can come to.

Too many people are ‘takers’. They want and want. Their sole purpose of doing business is to ‘get’ from the next person as much as possible.

The best ‘Strategy’ for me was and still is, “Honesty is the best policy” and be a giver not a taker. It has resulted in a lifetime of people always wanting to do business with me and recommending me to others. As a result of carrying myself through life like this, organically, a buzz always followed me.

10. Free Content Has Been The Answer

We have created innovation through entirely free content. People charge top dollar for half the content that we literally giveaway to the public. We stand out from the crowd because this information is not that easy to obtain for free.

11. Be Memorable But Only To Those Who Need To Know You

Rather than trying expensively to brand yourself to everyone, pick a niche, get famous in it, and be EVERYWHERE within that interest group. Write books and articles, give speeches, run a blog and a newsletter…all roads in your niche should lead to you, but only for the people already wanting to travel a similar road. And let them interconnect: example, my latest book tells people how to get hold of me to hire me as a green marketing consultant or speaker.

12. Be A Mench!

To be memorable, treat people the way your Grandma taught you to treat her. Look people in the eye, actively listen to what they are telling you, say “please” with meaning and integrity, write frequent “thank you” notes and be compassionate to others, regardless of their life status. We live in world of clicks and interruptions, and being in the moment and offering genuine gratitude to people you come in contact with spreads a contagious energy, attracting more of the same to you and to your professional pursuits.

    With the current state of Real Estate Market to be memorable I keep educating and supplying an unbias facts and information to my readers and the best compliment will be, that they made an intelligent decision based on my information.
