What Is Your Theme Song?

In last week’s Wrap Up post I mentioned one of my favorite theme songs – Just The Way You Are. I have always found music and lyrics to be incredibly inspiring, and outlets for expression of my feelings at certain points in my life.

When I think about what being an entrepreneur means to me, I find encouragement from songs that challenge me to let my light shine, push beyond any barriers, and simply celebrate who I am.

Realizing how important music is in my life, I guessed that it is important in the lives of others too. So I asked my subscribers to share their theme songs with you. My sincere gratitude to each of my friends, who contributed the music that resonates deeply in their lives.

Enjoy!

Beautiful by Christina Aguilera

“Even on insecure days, this song lifts me up. It reminds me that everyone is beautiful in their own way.”

What Love Really Means by JJ Heller

“This song is my theme song right now because it speaks to me a powerful message of hope and unconditional love.  No matter what we have done, how down or empty inside we may be (through success or failure), God promises to love us unconditionally for who we are and where we are in life.  He loves us just as we are.”

Thank you to Gary Sweany

Tubthumping by Chumbawamba

“This is my get up song because of where it says,
‘We’ll be singing, When we’re winning, We’ll be singing I get knocked down But I get up again,
You’re never going to keep me down!’
To me, my theme song means to never give up. It means to get back on the horse and keep going. It means that I might get down, but I’m never going to stay there. I will get back up and I will win.”

Eight Days a Week by The Beatles

“I would have to say now that my life as of now reflects the song ‘Eight Days a Week’ by the Beatles.  I’m not much of a Beatles fan (please don’t throw stones!) but this is a song that I find myself whistling frequently!
I love my husband with all my heart – ‘Eight Days a Week.’  I have a new-found energy that enables me to live, love and work to the equivalent of ‘Eight Days a Week.’  I have enough plans and thoughts that I WANT ‘Eight Days a Week!’
But, perhaps the most fitting of the lyrics are the words:
‘Hold me, love me, hold me, love me, Aint’ got nothin’ but love babe. Eight days a week!'”

Theme from the Original Hawaii 5-0

“Life is so much better with theme music.
I love the theme song from the old Hawaii 5-0!
I remember when some college friends were competing in a rowing race; one guy was on shore during the portages carrying a “boom box” with that song playing. I love it!”

Two votes for The Climb by Miley Cyrus

“The Climb inspires me whenever I hear it because it talks honestly about the self-doubts we all have and the courage it takes to overcome them and pursue your dreams anyway. It says even though you can’t always win, faith and perseverance will get you where you need to go.”

Thank you to Laura Connell, For Those About to Shop

“I know it’s cheesy but the lyrics are so meaningful. As business owners, in fact human beings, we face challenges constantly and it requires heaps of self-motivation to overcome them. The Climb reminds me that life is tough but my outlook and determination are what will help me to succeed no matter the obstacles.”

My current personal favorite

Firework by Katie Perry

“We each have magic inside that is waiting to burst forth and be shared with the world. That’s what we were put on this earth to do. But tapping your true potential takes courage — pushing past your big fat nasty fear. It’s about time you start focusing on fulfilling your dreams, and letting go of all the excuses you have been allowing to hold you back. Take control and take action! I can help, so just ask.”

If you have a special theme song that is resonating in your life right now, please leave a comment below and let me know what it is.

There is so much great music out there, so don’t keep it all to yourself.
