Being Organized Will Help You Get Ahead

We know that being organized has a huge impact on our productivity, and yet it can be one of the toughest challenges for busy entrepreneurs, who are often pulled in many directions at once. For me, writing every to-do on topic-oriented lists helps keep me on track — though, I have to admit my style is rudimentary. So I called on a guest expert, List Producer herself, Paula Rizzo, to give us her best strategies for getting ahead. After all, do you always want to feel like you are behind the proverbial “8 Ball”? Enjoy!

******************************************************************************************

Think about the most successful woman you know. Chances are she’s probably very organized. You know the type – folders for every project, Post-It notes lining her desk.  I’ve been a compulsive list maker my whole life. Now I’m an Emmy Award winning television producer and I’m positive that my little habit has made me more productive, efficient and focused at work.

Here’s why it works:

  • Organized people are born leaders:  After a meeting I’m always the first person to draft up a calendar or bullet points about the project we discussed.  Other people are happy to let you take the lead (most of the time) when your points are well thought out and systematic. Continue reading

Ask Shannon – Surviving Copreneurship

Question: How can husband-wife entrepreneur teams keep the business separate from their family life?

– Arroxane Eber, http://www.Kineteka.com, Lewisville, Texas

Shannon’s Answer: Arroxane, thank you for your question. According to a Wall Street Journal article, about one third of all family operated businesses are jointly run by husband and wife. In a tough economy, more spouses are finding ways to merge their “assets” at work and at home, and are quaintly becoming known as “copreneurs.”

This arrangement is not ideal for everyone. So if it’s something you are considering, you’ve got to weigh the pros and cons, and understand how to ensure success at the office and at home. Keys to success include Continue reading

How to Produce Business Leads, Not Weeds

Performance Tip of the Week

…What a person plants, (s)he will harvest. The person who plants selfishness, ignoring the needs of others – ignoring God! – harvests a crop of weeds. All (s)he’ll have to show for his/(her) life is weeds!… Galatians 6:7-8

As we approach the Thanksgiving holiday, I am reminded of the harvest. This verse applies directly to business and life on so many levels no matter your religious views. The bottom line is what you plant is what you will reap. There’s no getting around that.

You can’t expect to create a profitable business if you aren’t putting your best effort into it day by day. Quality breeds quality, and attracts quality in the form of ideal clients. As you’ve been reflecting on the legacy of business giant, Steve Jobs, who knew how to plant great seeds, and how to create a legacy in your niche, you have to ask yourself — “What am I doing today that will produce a bumper harvest in my business tomorrow?” Continue reading
