Get Your Head Out of the Clouds

Tip of the Week – March 8, 2011

“Pie in the Sky” thinking will never lead to success.

Leveraging your natural gifts will.

It’s one thing to have a big vision of what you want your future to be, but there is a significant difference between far-reaching, but achievable goals, and fantasy.

You can’t be anything you want to be, so work to focus your energy into developing your inherent gifts.  Your dreams won’t only be attainable, but incredibly fulfilling too.

Use Your Words and Just Say No

Last week I read a great post from Scott Ginsberg called, How to Keep Backbone Engaged.  It seems profoundly simple to just say “no,” and yet many women find that to be one of the most difficult words to say, even when it needs to be said.

Why?!

As I shared in the comments section, “I think, too often, women feel the need to take care of the world and through their choices, wind up at the bottom of their list of highest priorities.  When you choose to put yourself in that position, it’s very easy to just sacrifice yourself right off the list.”

It might be frightening for you to stop and think about how many times a month you actually do that, with the belief that just one more thing won’t make a difference. But one more thing always does. Continue reading

Question of the Week – Mar 7, 2011

This week’s question is –

As small business owners, we are all looking for ways to keep expenses at a minimum, while still maximizing productivity. What is your favorite online business tool for streamlining your operation, that gives you a huge bang for your buck?

Why should I join the discussion?

Because this online forum is a great place for us to exchange ideas, learn from each other and network. My goal is to unite successful women entrepreneurs to share our insights and solutions to the challenges we most commonly face in our businesses.

How do I get involved?

Every Monday I will post a new Question of the Week. This is a great opportunity for you to bring your expertise to the table. Using the link below, please submit a one paragraph response before the deadline, and the following week I will share our community responses on my blog.

37 Tips to Turn Your Customers Into Fans

There is a lot of competition in every market, and you’ve got to do what you can do to stand head and shoulders above the crowd.

One area where business owners surprisingly fall down on the job is in developing customer loyalty.

Working with a customer should never be viewed as a one-transaction experience, but a chance to build a long-term relationship.  That requires you to treat your customers like individuals.

No matter how large my business grows over time, my goal is to convey to each client how special she is to me, because she is. It’s never about numbers, but about building relationships, trust and understanding with every woman who seeks my help.

I believe that by making a personal investment in each client, they will be more inclined to recommend me to the special people in their lives.

I wanted to hear from others on this subject, and learn what they are doing to build customer loyalty in their niches, so last week I asked –

In a tough economy, when customers don’t easily part with their hard-earned money, entrepreneurs must go that extra mile to keep their customers happy.  What is your best strategy to build customer loyalty in your business?

We received 37 responses that are as creative and unique as their authors to inspire you, to achieve outstanding customer engagement in your business.   Continue reading

Why You Might Need to Avoid Your Chores

Last week I responded to a query sent out by Stephanie Calahan, President of Calahan Solutions, asking for best tips for successfully working from home.

Don’t miss 19 great tips, including mine (#10 in the lineup) that explains why you should avoid chores like the plague. Did you really want to clean the bathroom anyway?

Don’t Wait for Luck – Make it Happen!

When it comes to luck, I believe that it’s not something that you wait around on to land in your lap.  Sure there are those who waste spend money on lottery tickets, hoping that they will win big.  But the luckiest people I know are those who set themselves up to “win” big, and do.

The good life is not just for special people.  If you have been walking through your days with that kind of attitude, it’s time for some significant shifts in thinking and some proactive action.  Waiting for life to happen to you will leave you spending your entire life waiting.  Imagine what that will feel and look like in another 20-30 years.  If you don’t like that picture, keep reading.

There are plenty of people I know who haven’t had the easiest lives, but are incredibly fortunate.  No, they are not playing mind games with themselves to make things better that they really are.  And they aren’t some exception to a rule.  They have faced some pretty serious challenges, but have a knack for attracting good things into their life all the time.

How?  I am glad you asked, because that means you’ve made it this far and would like to know how you can do it too.  I am going to break it down into some simple changes you can make in your life today that will begin to open doors of opportunity all around you: Continue reading

Believing is Achieving

Welcome to the Tip of the Week – March 2, 2011

If you want to achieve success, you must learn to expect success.  It’s not about your potential, or action or results.  All of those things mean nothing if you don’t have an unshakeable belief in yourself to support, and fuel them.  Knowing where you want to go is very important to making forward progress.  But if you don’t believe you can actually reach your desired destination, what’s the point of starting the journey in the first place.

So begin today by taking a hard look at what you believe.  If it doesn’t match your dreams, then decide how you will close the gap.
