50+ Tips for Blowing Past Writer’s Block

Welcome to the Question of the Week!

When you write for a living, or at least part of your living, there will be times when you hit a dry spell, and your brain feels like it’s on empty. Facing writer’s block can be scary, but panicking about it will only make it worse. Last week I wanted to hear from the experts on this topic and asked,

If you maintain a blog, you have a commitment to churn out valuable information on a regular basis. On those occasions when your words just won’t flow, what’s your best strategy for breaking free from writer’s block?

The response to this question was amazing! We received tips from over 50 professionals, who spend a great amount of their work hours writing. The most common tip seemed to be to push right on through and literally write anything, just to get the ideas flowing.

Some of my personal favorites were taking a waterproof pad and pencil into the shower — this would actually work for me since I am brilliant when in the shower; writing like you were speaking to a child; and sitting down with wine and snacks to get into the mood. There are so many more great tips below, that I hope you will find as inspiring as we did. Enjoy!

Tips to Start Up Smart

Welcome to the Weekly Wrap Up!

Nothing is more misleading than the start-up stories that depict overnight success. More often than not, people neglect to be completely transparent and share the struggles and actual timeline that lead to their business making it onto the map. This week I looked for honest stories of hard work, perseverance, great ideas and belief in self that led entrepreneurs to their success. The only way to make the entrepreneurial journey easier is to pursue something with determination that taps into your talent.

This weekly wrap up was designed to share the blogs, websites and/or businesswomen that I found particularly helpful this week.  My top blog picks this week center around Tips to Start-Up Smart. Enjoy!

Pink Means Business

Did you know that up until the end of the second World War that pink was the preferred color for boys, and blue for girls? Amazing how things have changed. It’s not difficult to find an explosion of pink hues in any store that caters to little girls. Despite some people’s disparagement of pink, once solely known for representing tranquility, romance, and femininity, it’s now synonymous with power.

How Do You Like Pink Now?

Pink has become the spokes-color for Breast Cancer survivors and awareness. Tool manufacturers, now catering to the female DIY’ers, sell pink power tools that are smaller for women, but still pack the same punch as traditional power tools. The Power Rangers have a female hero, The Pink Ranger, donned in a pink power suit, and accessorized with a Pink Zeo Jet Cycle and matching Pink Laser Pistol. And “pink” power websites for women are emerging, like LittlePinkBook.com.

Finding the Perfect Match

Tip of the Week – February 2, 2011

How do you determine whether or not your business idea is a perfect match for you?

If you know what your greatest strengths are, and you have built your business around them, then you are on the right track to success.  Deciding to start a business should not be based on things you enjoy doing.  We are not talking about a hobby.  Being happy with what you do each day is part of the big picture, but you need to select a path that aligns with the areas where you excel naturally.

Stuck is Not a Valid Excuse Anymore

“All successful people men and women are big dreamers. They imagine what their future could be, ideal in every respect, and then they work every day toward their distant vision, that goal or purpose.” – Brian Tracy

What are you doing to move closer to your dream today?  Do you have a plan?  Do you even know what you want out of life?

If you’ve answered “no” to any of those questions, here’s one more, — What’s holding you back?

If you desire to move beyond your current circumstances, you can’t expect that by continuing to do the same things, you will receive any different results.  Start by listening to your inner dialog.  What are your thoughts focused on?  The things you fear about the future, or the ideal future you long to live?

Question of the Week – Jan 31, 2011

This week’s question is –

If you maintain a blog, you have a commitment to churn out valuable information on a regular basis. On those occasions when your words just won’t flow, what’s your best strategy for breaking free from writer’s block?

Why should I join the discussion?

Because this online forum is a great place for us to exchange ideas, learn from each other and network. My goal is to unite successful women entrepreneurs to share our insights and solutions to the challenges we most commonly face in our businesses.

Who Is Your Hero?

Throughout life, we are touched by significant figures, who cross our paths in big and small ways. When it comes to business, we all need heroes to motivate, drive, inspire, and lean on from time to time. I love to hear stories from entrepreneurs who have been dramatically impacted by someone special, so last week I asked,

“What single person has had the greatest impact on your business success to date, and why?”

I’m am thrilled to share the responses from 24 business owners. Their heroes include family members, business coaches, famous authors, and some of history’s legends. Enjoy reading how each respondent was driven to reach new heights in business and life by the special heroes and mentors they’ve encountered. If you would like to give a shout-out to your hero, please leave a comment below.
