Start-Up Do-Overs

Even if you have done it before, starting a business will come with its fair share of mistakes.  But mistakes are experiences from which you can learn the most.  Some of my best lessons have cost me the most money, but have been incredibly valuable.  If I could, would I take the chance to go back and do things differently?  Sure!  So last week I asked the question –

If you were given one “do-over” during your startup process, what would it be and how would you do things differently?

Everyone has a story of what they would change.  We were fortunate enough to capture 17 from our panel of business professionals to share with you.  Perhaps some will feel familiar and others you may not have encountered, yet.  My hope is that you will learn from the lessons shared, and have greater wisdom as you continue to grow in your business.  Enjoy!

Climbing Out of the Pit of Perfectionism

Welcome to the Weekly Wrap Up!

Have you ever gotten caught up in a cycle of perfectionism? When it comes to your business, it’s only natural to always want to put your best foot forward. But that shouldn’t come at the cost of never getting yourself out there. I know what it’s like to want every last detail to be perfect, for fear (there’s that ugly word) that someone might be critical. Well, the truth is (1) perfection is not realistic, and (2) if it was, there would still be critics. So instead of working yourself into a frenzy over a project, presentation, or product, ask yourself if good is going to be good enough.

This weekly wrap up was designed to share the blogs, websites and/or businesswomen that I found particularly helpful this week. Because this can be such a hot button topic for entrepreneurs, and especially women (I can say that because I am one of them),  my top blog picks this week center around the subject of how to successfully deal with your perfectionistic tendencies. Enjoy!

Give Me Some Love

Tip of the Week – February 9, 2011

What are your thoughts when it comes to providing customer service? Is good, good enough these days? You know the level of service you demand (or would like to demand) as a consumer, therefore you should strive to exceed that bar with your own customers.

When company’s begin to cut corners in a falling economy, the one thing they should NEVER skimp on is the care they extend to the people who buy or are considering buying from them. To stand head and shoulders above the competition, the name of the game is give, give, give, and then, give some more.

Everything is Negotiable in Business

Yes I mean everything.

Embracing this mindset is the first, and most critical, step in becoming a master negotiator.

Disgusted? Intrigued?

Are you fingers just itching to comment?

Read on so you can set me straight or declare your newfound mindset.

Have Morals? Good, so do I.

You’re probably thinking, ok Nicole. I have ethics and morals. Everything in business is NOT negotiable for me. Good. I mean that. I wish everyone would stand firm on their morals.

So was I just link-baiting? Absolutely not.

It’s extremely important to make a distinction between the act of negotiation and arriving at a mutually acceptable agreement.

Let’s look at a real life example.

Question of the Week – Feb 7, 2011

This week’s question is –

Every business owner makes mistakes when starting up, and learns valuable lessons. But if you had the chance to go back in time, and were given one do-over during your startup process, what would it be and how would you do things differently?

Why should I join the discussion?

Because this online forum is a great place for us to exchange ideas, learn from each other and network. My goal is to unite successful women entrepreneurs to share our insights and solutions to the challenges we most commonly face in our businesses.

How do I get involved?
